Umbrella Concepts:


Math:
To use data acquired by interpreting mathematical formulas then comparing the statistics on how child labor differed between the China and India.
Student will obtain the information for word problems from two documentaries and solve using appropriate formulas then graphing their results.

Science:
Students will associate how unsafe work conditions of the 1900's were responsible for the various acquired diseases. Moreover, equate the importance of a healthy immune system and how it is compromised when exposed to carcinogens and mutagens at the workplace. Furthermore, students will be able to associate how the pollution from factories affects the environment, specifically the ozone, rivers and plants.

Social Studies:
Cause and Effect - Students will learn how politics, economics, and social issues all contributed to the hardships faced by the American workforce. They will also learn about how these difficulties created the need for change, and how this change was brought about.
Students will learn about specific situations of child labor abuse that have existed all over the world, not just in the past, but that still exist today. They will need to answer types of questions such as, but not limited to: What are the reasons children engage(d) in this practice? For the benefit of their families? To pay for their own educations? They will also have an understanding of initiatives and promotions that exist to stop the practice.

English:
Using literature, creative/persuasive writing to help students make connections between historical struggles of the working class throughout history as well as present day issues.
Students will understand arguments and be able to articulate their own roles regarding the plight of factory workers.
Students will understand and interpret messages regarding struggle within literary works.
